Hayden Grove was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to a father who loved classical music and opera and a mother who loved the rugged style of Bruce Springsteen. Singing since he could make sounds from his mouth, Grove developed a love for the Great American Songbook and its many interpreters when he was a child. While perusing his parents’ CD collection, he started listening to Harry Connick Jr.’s ‘Blue Light, Red Light’ and his lifelong passion for the standards began. He first started performing the music in sixth grade, when he performed Bobby Darin’s ‘Mack the Knife’ for his school talent show and hasn’t left the stage since. After receiving a degree in journalism from The Ohio State University, Grove moved to the place his grandfather made him fall in love with—Cleveland, Ohio – to cover the Indians, Browns and Cavaliers for Cleveland.com and The Plain Dealer’s social media channels. As he pursued his passion for Cleveland and its sports teams, he continued to pursue his musical dreams. After meeting legendary Cleveland pianist, Mike Petrone, who has served as his musical mentor, Grove started to book gigs all over Northeast Ohio, as well as recording a Christmas EP— ‘Christmas’— and a traditional album— ‘Hayden: The Album.’ While performing solo most of the time, Grove sings with local big bands, ‘The Skatch Andersson Orchestra’ and ‘The Dan Zola Orchestra,’ both directed by Youngstown State University Jazz Studies graduate Eric Dregne and Petrone. He’ll continue to chase his unmatched passion for performing the standards and hopes to keep the music alive and fresh for generations to come.
