What is Prayer?

1) It is not vain repetition.....

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Matt 6:7 (KJV)

Chanting, spells, and other forms of repetitions wording that is supposed to bring good luck or fortune is not prayer.

2) It is not a form or pre-set wording....

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Tim 3:5 (KJV)

Prayers that were designed by man to replace "true prayer" are a form of godliness, tending to deny the power of God. Some people would try to say that Jesus used a form prayer, when He first said "The Lord Prayer", yet the bible clearly shows that it was an example as it was said only once:

And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. Luke 11: 1 (KJV)

Yet some people feel that this is the only prayer that they can pray. At that point, it can tend to become vain repetition.

OK, that is what it isn't, now what is it ???????

If we look in the bible, we can see that Jesus prayed many times and several times his exact words are recorded. This is very revealing. His words were simply conversations with his father. At times, he actually talked over different ideas with his father. In the garden, he wanted the cup to pass, in other words, as a human, he did not want to suffer and die, yet He wanted the father's will to be done. We need to learn to talk with God, even when we are questioning what is happening to us. We don't know everything, but prayer teaches us to to trust God. This was hard for me, since I came out of a religion that had taught me many form prayers, that never questioned God, never truely conversed with God. This despite that the fact that the bible clearly teaches that we need to walk (and talk) with God like Adam & Eve did in the Garden of Eden.

Prayer Groups &
Internet Prayer Chains

If you have need of prayer, contacting one (or all) of these groups is a great way to let your need be known. When you do a group of Christians will start praying for that need. These groups have a form on their web site for you to fill out to send them. The neat thing is only God knows how many Christians will be praying as these requests sometimes get passed from group to group and possibly around the world by the net.

This one is new, but I like the idea of using the Internet in the most efficient way possible and I think they maybe on to something, so give them a try. I would rather have lots of people praying for my needs....

"....... every time I ever had a need or send out requests for someone else, it was filling out 7, 15, or more or less prayer "form" requests... which lead me to this web site to send one prayer request to several places with the "click of a mouse" as they say. Anyway, I hope this helps ... You are welcome to put my link on your site, and if you have any suggestions as to any additional prayer groups for me to add, I would appreciate it as well."

God bless your day - in every way!
